I’m pleased with this embroidery. I used Paternayan wool thread and a little Appletons with some sewing thread here and there. Late summer is shifting into early fall, so this will be my reminder of August.

I treated myself and had this embroidery framed under glass. I’m so pleased with how it turned out.
Finished: Great Blue Heron Crewel Embroidery
I finished this embroidery. I stitched for over five weeks, many hours per week. Whew!
Working with wool and linen is a treat. They go together perfectly, and I never tire of the combination. I’ve purchased some linen twill, a traditional crewel fabric, and I’m looking forward to trying it out.
I was so involved with this project that I didn’t spend much time planning another one. So now, what should it be? I think I’ll start sketching and see what calls out to me. In the meantime, I need to learn how to frame this project.
Finished: Erica Wilson Crewel Embroidery Owl Family
It took a month and who knows how many hours, but I finished this 1978 owl family embroidery designed by Erica Wilson. It’s huge, 24”x20”. I persevered with this highly repetitive project, but I doubt it’ll be hung anywhere. It’s cute and quirky, but did I mention it’s huge?
I love crewel embroidery, and I’m going to be brave and start my own design.
