My Scarf

I just started a narrow scarf for myself using Berroco Remix. The pattern is a favorite, the 3/1 lace pattern in the weft float section of Jane Patrick's book, The Weaver's Idea Book. Instead of using scrap yarn, I'm using a length of spool knitted yarn I made on this little gadget, the Embellish Knit I-Cord Maker. Works great!

You can make a simple peg loom out of drinking straws and yarn. Take a few straws, cut a small notch near the bottom of each, and thread a strand of yarn through each. Tie each doubled strand near the bottom and begin wrapping a new strand around each straw. There are tutorials on straw loom weaving if you search for it.

My niece made this headband in less than 30 minutes with only four straws and a small amount of self-striping yarn. Talk about a DIY craft! If you are having a headband emergency–and don't we all–this is definitely a colorful, creative and frugal solution.

After realizing this type of weaving stick is probably considered large gauge, I pulled out some old Lion Brand Wool Ease and wove this odd scarf in about an hour. It’s heavy and warm. Now I’m curious about adding more color and even weaving strips to sew together to make something larger.
