Metalpoint Great Horned Owl

9”x12” metalpoint (silver, gold, copper, aluminum) on watercolor paper coated with Golden Silverpoint Drawing Ground

This owl settled into a tree and I took four quick, blurry pictures just to prove it happened. Metalpoint seemed to be a good medium for a mysterious, moody drawing.

Early Birthday Present, Gold Stylus

I always get my presents early, and this year, my husband bought me this 24K gold stylus for metalpoint drawings. The paper is a clay-coated paper from silverpointweb.com. I don’t know if it’s any particular brand. It picks up marks from pretty much everything but appears to erase well, thank goodness.

I’m looking forward to using gold on different surfaces. It looks like a warm gray but has a gold reflection when the light hits it just right.

A Few Roosters

Colored pencil on Duralar (polyester), 9”x12”

Well, that didn’t work out quite the way I planned. The one I thought I’d like, the rooster on the sanded paper, turned out muddy in the end with a blah background, and the one I wasn’t certain of, on Duralar, found a home (my husband asked for it). So now I need to draw another rooster. No trouble there—it’s a favorite subject.
